FREE TUTORING FOR YOUR CHILD
Date: August 24, 2009
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Help your child succeed in school—sign up for free tutoring! As a result of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, your child can receive extra help in math, reading, and language arts.
On July 22nd a letter was mailed to you informing you that Bradford High School has been identified as a Title I high priority school in Improvement status due to our graduation rate being below the state mandated requirement. Because of this, your child is eligible for Supplemental Education Services (SES), provided your family meets the income limits under the law. SES is a free tutoring program that is provided outside of regular school hours. These services will be conducted by outside agencies called “providers” that have been approved by the state. SES will be offered both the first and second semester. You may enroll either semester or both if you so desire.
A list of approved tutoring programs in our area is enclosed along with a brief description of the services, qualifications, and demonstrated effectiveness of the providers. These programs have been approved by the Tennessee Department of Education and will provide you child with tutoring that should help with what is being taught in school. When deciding which tutoring program is best for you child, you may want to ask these questions:
Please call Jerry Diviney at 742-3180 if you have any questions about these services. Information will also be posted on our school website located at http:/bradfordssd.com. If you would like to select a tutor now, you may fill out the enclosed provider selection form and mail it back or bring it to Bradford High School, P.O. Box 70, Bradford, Tn., 38316. Applications are due on or before Friday, September 4th. You will receive notification from Bradford Special School District by September 10th about when tutoring will begin. We will also schedule a meeting of the tutors you select so that you may talk with them concerning your child’s program, after we receive you selections.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely, Enclosures: Approved Provider List
